The family's mill was opened in 1910, in Paterson, New Jersey, the Silk City, by
Louis Cohen who was an immigrant from South Africa. In 1924, Louis Cohen's son-in-law,
Maurice Glasgall, took over the business. After World War II, Maurice Glasgall's
sons-in-law, Robert Berkley and Ernest Weiner went into the business. In 1954, they
purchased a shut down mill in Denver, Pennsylvania (Lancaster County), and opened it as
"Weave Corporation". Under the leadership of Robert Berkley, the company grew and
prospered. The Paterson mill was closed in 1967.
In 1973, Roger Berkley, Robert Berkley's son, joined the firm. In 1976, Roger Berkley
opened the upholstery division. At that time, most of the fabrics being made went into the
necktie trade. In 1983, Ernest Weiner retired; the necktie business was squeezed out by
increasing demand for capacity from the upholstery business. In 1995, Roger Berkley took over
ownership of Weave Corporation from his father.
In the Fall of 2000, Weave Corporation began developing 100% silk upholstery fabrics in China
through its Glasgall Silk Company division. Two years later, the first Glasgall Silk line was
introduced and was very successful. Since that time, all our major customers have developed
large collections.
